Winter Respite

February 15th through 21st
Late last week felt more like March than February. Highs breached freezing and the dripping sound of melting snow filled the air. Before the thaw, time was well spent on indoor crafting projects. This Summer, the arduous task of picking an adjunct to your coke will be made effortless by the "Wheel of Rum ". Huzzah! Just before the thaw, the hills of Brule were skied upon. The conditions were good under an overcast sky. Logging season is in full cut! Just North of Laona there's a large pile of sticks. We don't remember ever seeing a larger heap of log. The weekend wind whispered/shouted at us to get the ice-out contest up soon. Watching snow-goers slop over the lake was the highlight of the weekend. The condition of Knott Lane is better than the snowmobile trails. If the temperatures drop, the Lane is gonna be one big slab of contusion. It's too early to declare Winter dead, but it's tempting. The forecast predicts that Winter's fever will break in the next few days. That's going to make the ground very hard under the predicted snow. So hey, lets be careful out there. We'll get an ice thickness check after the slush layer freezes. We'd guess it'll be around 17 inches.

-Nemo is frantically finishing this year's ice-out contest.
