Not So Bad

January 18th through 24th
Winter shifted back to mild last week. Given the brutality of the last two Winters, this season has us happy and, on occasion, hatless. Early last week, the trees got another coating of the white. When the sun is out, shadows are still long. There's about 2 inches of snow on the lake and over 8 inches of ice under that snow. The moon got more full last week. After sunset, moonlight reflected off the snow giving the night a cloudy day feel. Form maintenance is done. A survey crew is scheduled to begin marking fort locations in the next day or so. The 25th Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War is scheduled for this Saturday at around 7:00 PM. There'll be t-shirts, soups, band aids, and beverages. And rockets. Lots and lots of rockets. The lake is still frozen. We did not get the chance to dip a baited hook through the ice last week so we can't attest to Lake Lucerne's continued fishlessness. Rumors have it that there may be one or two fish near the islands. A few scattered shanties on the South are chasing this fish. Nothing like the small city that has popped up all over Lake Metonga. That lake-town is close to becoming incorporated and getting its own zipcode.

-Nemo's not throwing his hat into the ring to run for Mayor of Metonga mostly because his ears would get cold.
