No really, December??

December 8th through 13th, 2015

Lake Lucerne
Mild. If you had to sum up December 2015 so far, that's the word. We have had some snow. By the end of last week though, only a faint echo of the white stuff remained.
Lake Lucerne
Devils Lake and Wabikon started last week ice covered. By week's end, Wabikon began to open up.
Lake Lucerne
If you look at the top of this image, it looked like Lake Riley had ice, too.
Lake Lucerne
Squirrel! No...ice on Wabikon. It's not described as thick. The wise fisherman will wait until it's a wee bit thicker before driving over it to their ice shack.
Lake Lucerne
There was a bit of peril where Knott Lane intersects West Shore Drive. The snow melted to slush and then froze making a treacherous twenty feet of trail.
Lake Lucerne
The rest of Knott Lane is a piece of cake.
Lake Lucerne
The mild weather made life a little bit easier for the WPS contractors as they went about demoting power poles to just plain poles.
Lake Lucerne
Squirrel! No...WPS contractor rolling up power line.
Lake Lucerne
By the end of the week, the only task remaining for WPS was the always entertaining pole plucking.
Lake Lucerne
Squirrel! No...a deck view of the lake without the need to photoshop the power lines out. Huzzah!
Lake Lucerne
There's still water in the creek! Plus, look at all the water frozen in the swamp across the road. Signs point to a deeper Lake Lucerne come Spring. Huzzah!
Lake Lucerne
For the most part, only the reflection of lifts and piers remain on the lake.
Lake Lucerne
Squirrel!
Lake Lucerne
There was golf! With the snow gone and the temperature pushing past 40°F, nine holes became a moral imperative. That, plus parking was not a problem.
Lake Lucerne
The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape for December.
Lake Lucerne
What the greens lacked in flags they made up for with holes. There was one per green for each link on the front nine.
Lake Lucerne
Last week started with a little ice in the cracks and crevices of the South end. By the end of the week, the lake was a little deeper and ice free. After this last bit of rain, the forecast is for much colder temperatures and Winter. We suspect the islands will be ice locked in less than a week with ice-in for the entire lake shortly after that. In between, we have a half a bag of limes to kill and the new Star Wars movie comes out.
