We all knew it would happen. Last week, Summer moved out of the northwoods and Fall moved in.
Morning frosts are now common. The smell of wood smoke is becoming ubiquitous north of hwy 64.
The lake is still higher than it was at ice-out. The half inch of rain last week helped.
The lake's temperature is dropping. Fast. It was at 66°F at midweek (this picture) and 63°F by Sunday.
Fish, duck, and squirrel hunters don't seem phased by the return of Fall.
Careful on Potawatomi Trail. Local bambies are trotting up and down the road.
The ink caps (Coprinopsis atramentaria) are up.We think that they are edible, but we know that they are mow-able.
There are colors in many of the trees, but they have not peaked.
The drone was sent up to get a better feel for the color.
Maybe 30%? It'll peak by next weekend.
The last run of the year included cigars and shots. The skis were eventually dropped but the cigar did not stay lit during the end of the barefoot run.
Pumpkin carving occurred on Saturday night. We were particularly proud of the "3".
All the carvings were well crafted and orange.
The post carving finger audit matched the pre-carving count. Huzzah!
The lake is still warm enough to go for a quick swim, but you may enjoy it more if you first put on a wet suit. Or a dry suit. Or a boat. Many boats and lifts were dragged from the water last week. Knottlane's ice in contest will be posted in the next few weeks.
