Faux Summer
April 14th through 20th

This week, like every week before it since November, started with ice covering the lake. This would not stand.

On Wednesday, the heat picked up, along with the wind. The lake ice began to break up into huge sheets.

The ice also began to move. It crashed into the northwestern side of the lake and started to scour rocks, lifts, and piers on the shore. We rescued ours before any damage was inflicted.

Other stuff was not so lucky.

The wind aided in the drying segment of this year's bucket cleaning.

Until it didn't. Stupid wind.

The only evidence of tapping that remained in the woods were some ATV tracks and 370 tree holes. The last canning was 10 gallons and uneventful.

Faux Summer. It feels just like Summer with highs in the 70's (℉) and a liquid lake. It differs from Summer by its length. About 3 days in this case. You can pack a lot of stuff into 3 days. There was golf (10 Points), campfires (2 Points), paddle boating (10 points), and swimming (5 Points). Well, not really swimming (5 points), but going into the lake to put in piers and the paddle boat lift (cabin work, 10 points per half hour). The lake is cold. Really cold. We do not recommend any kind of swimming today. There are flags posted on some shores that warn of sharks or rip tides. There should be one flying on Lake Lucerne to signify the water is too cold in which to swim. I see the flag as a blue shivering guy on a white background with maybe some snowflakes.
