Colder, Then Less Cold
January 13th through 19th

We had some days last week that were made to be photographed. The light wind, blue sky, and sunlight came at a price.

The offical low temperature that day was -26 F, but it was far warmer next to the bar.

It got less cold. By the weekend, the warming trend called to the wild icicles to gather around the bar.

We especially like the 'cicles that form in swirling winds.

The blue on Friday was buzzed with a smattering of white for a while.

Looking to the East, it appears that Devils Lake is still frozen, as is Wabikon.

Drone eye views of next year's Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War are already in the planning stages.

Stick pickup continues. We're leaving the "fort whiskers" for last.

There's more than one sundial left on the lake.

...this speaks for itself.

Saturday was the day to be at the Crandon Community Building for the Crandon Lions 33rd Annual Fish-O-Ree.

It was well attended.

This was our first Fish-O-Ree. Hers too.

We found the "Meat Raffle" to be one of the funnier things to see.

Back on Knott Lane, the creepy deer shaped suet feeder continues to keep the feathered entertained/fed.

The lake currently has 13 inches of very solid ice under about 8 inches of rapidly compacting snow.

Last week started off cold; it is January after all. Then a thaw that has been absent for two Winters blessed the area. Was it time to tap trees and fetch the golf clubs? No. No, it was not. There's plenty of frosty goodness left, but it was a warning to those that have yet to join ski to slope. There's still downhill skiing in March and even April, but it can be sloppy, rainy, and can interfere with tree tapping or worse, golf. The clock is ticking on icy gravity sports and we are getting closer to thinking about picking an ice-out date. I'll get the ice-out contest up in the next few weeks if we continue to see these happier, more normal temperatures.
