A Bit Too Autumnal for Our Liking
September 9th through 15th

The rain event spoken of in the last summary ended, but streams and creeks continued to flow into the lake. Lake Lucerne continues to rise.

On Wednesday it started to rain again. It didn't rain hard, but it didn't really stop until Sunday morning. Lake Lucerne continues to rise

The rain gauge on the North end of the lake was emptied late Sunday. It whispered about 1.8 inches of the wet stuff but considering the evaporation rate and what was reported by other rain gauges around the area, we think we got just a bit over 2 inches total.

Pessimistically placed piers are currently being punished along with innocent shoes, socks and feet foolish enough to tread on them. My shoes remained wet long after the sun went down which was again too early (see last week's summary).

A big, bad* bald eagle cruised the North end of the lake looking for a good time (food).

* Bad if you're a fish, duck or some sort of rodentia. The whole good/bad thing in nature can be very relative unless you are speaking of raccoons, they're pure evil wrapped in fur.

The knottlane.com UAV did not crash this week despite our best efforts. It continues to function well and can be described as good; very much unlike raccoons

Rain. We continue to get more than our share. This Autumn has been wet so far. The temperature of all that lake is just under 65 F. You can go swimming, but you're not going to like it. You really wouldn't like it during some of the past few mornings where the air temperature was just barely warm enough to keep the rain from getting all white and fluffy. We expect freezing temperatures in November, and to a lesser extent in October, but getting up to an almost freezing morning in September can elicit the same reaction as waking to discover a horse head in your bed. Auggg!. We have been trying to get some pictures from the south end of the lake with the drone but have had trouble getting enough GPS locks (six) to keep the beastie stable (under six satellites plus forest can add up to a very expensive way to trim trees.) There are currently some plans to get the drone aloft on the south end of the lake and a few don't involve chainsaw wielding monkeys. Mostly they don't.
