Of Bugs and Bar Rails

It didn't rain much last week. The creek on the North end of Lake Lucerne went dry just after Thursday. The lake is holding at 22.5 inches below the nail. We need a few wet weeks to hold the gains we've made this year. If you have any influence over such things, now is the time to call in the favors. We need more rain.

The unrained upon, 73°F water was rough most of the week. When the water did flatten out, it would get all skied up, or better yet, a footing/Gene Simmons look alike contest would be held (winner shown here).

Under the water is cool, clear, and lacking the fish that are normally all over the place this time of year.

There are a few bluegills on spawning beds just off the raft giving the fish-stink eye to any diver in range.

The water show at Water's Edge on Wednesday was good. During the month of July, there's also a show on Monday.

The two ski bomb out is always good for a crash or two.

The crowds have been picking up as of late. Best to get here early to get the best view.

Back to back bar nights at the end of the week killed some bottles and toasted some fingers.

The Bailey's comet, perhaps inspired by a great Crandon fireworks display, did not start much of the bar on fire.

The less stated about the punishment shots dispensed during dice based games, the better.

It feels like Summer. The sun is hot, the water is pushing into the 70's°F, the fish are biting, and there's a growing tuber infestation. The local mosquito population is high, but not at the maximum it was at back in early June. Still, unless you're planning on a transfusion later in the evening, it's best to DEET up before going through the screen door. The bar nights on Friday and Saturday/Sunday had an epic nature to them that will be hard to top. You should have been there.
