June 17th through 23rd, 2014

We passed the Summer Solstice this week and it didn't snow. We only mention the lack of snow to help those of us that are still suffering from Post Traumatic Winter Disorder. Over 50% of the country and 80% of Wisconsinites have some form of PTWD. Therapies to treat PTWD include tennis, golf, and not shoveling snow but the best treatments involve a boat and a flat lake. We are not sure if your health insurance will cover the boat or ski. At least the boat gas could be covered, but call your provider to be sure. The second ski show of the year had a more polished look. If you're free this Wednesday, be sure to take in a run or two. One of the cooler acts this week was a bald eagle swooping down the course just as the final ski performance came to shore. This week, local loons were hunting fish in packs of two, with one loon looking for more and another tasting one up. Summer arrived this week with a hum. Old timers say that they have not seen the mosquitoes this bad for over 50 years. We believe 'em. A steady hum of 400 to 600 hertz fills the days and haunts the nights. The night hums are usually punctuated with a slap and a bout of Tourette's. Still, it's so much better than 20 below zero and glacier covered roads. And speaking of Tourette's, the NCC golf course is in great shape and now includes an absolute hoard of penny toads populating the low spots on seven. There has been a lot of overcast this week and even more wind, but very little rain. We need more rain.

-Nemo's scheduled for more PTWD therapy just as soon as the lake flattens out.
