Zombie Winter!

April 1st through 7th, 2014

The trees were beginning to produce maple syrup precursor, roads were showing pavement and there was talk of golf. Winter was declared dead. On Thursday night, it started to snow. The snow stopped late Friday. The most feared seasonal aberration was upon us: ZOMBIE WINTER! Witness the wrath of ZOMBIE WINTER as it stops mail delivery with its icy, undead grip (assisted by local plows)! Behold the once sort of clear roads transformed into a tractionless morass. ZOMBIE WINTER wants your car either stuck or dented or both! Strangely, despite the attack of ZOMBIE WINTER, the lake ice is down 1.5 inches from last week. Still, 25.5 inches of ice is a lot of ice. By Sunday, legions of brave, spring like elements chased ZOMBIE WINTER back from where it came (Canada? Arbor Vitae? Woodruff?( I'm thinking Minocqua.)) All that currently remains of the icy, undead terror is a stunted maple syrup season (boo!) and melt water running into the lake (huzzah!). ZOMBIE WINTER, one of the most feared of the four horsemen of the snowpocalypse, has been vanquished. For now, maple sap is flowing at a rate greater than our capacity to boil it down, snow piles are shrinking, and there is again talk of golf someday. But even with all this and daily temperatures consistently going above freezing, the lesson of ZOMBIE WINTER will keep us vigilant and always ready for the next icy atrocity that an extended Winter can inflict upon us.<br><br><br>-Nemo watched way too many B grade horror movies growing up.
