| More Snow January 14th through 20th |

| This week it snowed, more than any other week this season. Walking on the lake through the deep snow is quite aerobic. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It hoarfrost-ed too. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It has been almost two weeks since a lake ice measurement was taken on Lake Lucerne. Since the last hole was drilled, the snow got deeper. Shoveling it to get to the ice is becoming a non-trivial exercise. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After the snow and other frozen water phenomena, small and medium song birds pecked away at the deer shaped suet feeders that have been hanging around Knott Lane since late last November. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| New blades on the auger make the actual hole drilling a trivial matter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There is twelve and a half inches of very good ice under fourteen inches of very heavy snow. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By the end of the Denver/Patriot game, the North fort had fifteen feet of wall and the beginnings of an igloo. The southern stronghold will be started on Tuesday. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Twenty Third Annual Lake Lucerne Bottle Rocket War is just a week away. Late last week, a survey crew was sent onto the ice to mark the locations of this year's forts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| As this is being written, the snow is resting on the ground and the cold is calling for another round. We've been here before. Because of this past experience, we've evolved a thick layer of bar to protect us from the cold. Fort building will continue all this week culminating in the 2014 Bottle Rocket War on Saturday. The bar will be opened after the war to participants, onlookers and anyone else looking for a booth and a free drink. We even got a lime to insure that those free drinks will be smartly garnished. -Nemo, shivered not stirred. Previous Next |
