Long Shadows
December 10th through 16th
It was cold and ugly early last week.  Later in the week, it was less windy, a little warmer and the sun came out.  This made the week seem warmer and had us thinking Spring.  A look at the calendar cleared those thoughts right up.
Christmas lights brighten up most of the houses in Crandon. As usual, none can hold an LED to Tom Perry's display.
There are more deer, penguins and traditional Christmas imagery than the eye can take in at a glance.  There is also a small bit of controversy...
Tom's depiction of "The Bumble" has issues.  If you look closely it has teeth!  In the movie, by the time it was topping Christmas trees with stars, its teeth were removed by an amateur dentist/misfit elf.  Mr Perry could not be reached for comment.  In another conceivably more grievous controversy, we should have included a spoiler alert somewhere in this paragraph.
The lake is still covered with ice.  A hole was drilled to check its thickness.
There was 9.5 inches of very hard ice separating us from a very cool swim.
There's four inches of snow covering all that lake ice.  That's enough to build a great fort, but not enough to seriously impede hiking.  The origin of the four inches is from several small snow events rather than one good storm.  I find myself missing those big snow storms.  Just after a really deep one it gets very still and quiet out on the lake.  It also makes a great surface on which to put a chair and share a bottle of wine while watching Orion cross the sky.
