The Week Ending With Ice-In
November 26th through 2nd
Some of the early sunsets were pretty spectacular.  Just two or three more weeks until the days start getting longer and eventually warmer.
The week started with more open water than iced-over lake.  If you looked closely though, the ice on seemingly open shoreline was growing fast.
The North end of Lake Lucerne got some too.
We would not miss many aspects of the cold weather (short days, frozen limbs, ugly hats) but some Winter phenomemon can be pretty fantastic.  Hoarfrost (frozen dew) covered the shoreline of the lake.  Especially the boat landing.
Ice-In came early this year.  Huzzah, if you're into that sort of thing.  One of the more ambitious and reckless of us donned a wetsuit, grabbed an ice drill, ruler and went out onto the new shelf.  The ice, 50 feet from the shore, on the North end is 4 inches thick.  I'll bet it's a bit thinner closer to the middle.  We've got snow followed by extreme cold coming later this week.  That should thicken the lake up nicely.  Christmas lights should become more widespead this week.  If history is any guide, Tom Perry's will rule the northwoods.  I'll get pictures.
