The third, and hopefully last, week of Deep Winter included snow.

Snowstorm Ed, the biggest of the year, dumped just under six inches on the lake and surrounding snowmobile trails.

The plan was to ride the lifts at Brule on Friday. There was talk of changing the plan when we heard it was -19°F at the hill, but we were already there. We stayed. And froze.

After about an hour of falling down the hills, a vote was held and it was unanimously decided to warm up inside Homestead lodge. The wood stoves that heat each room were glowing red trying to keep the ice at bay.

The frozen layer covering Lake Lucerne is 14.25 inches thick.

The road conditions on Knott Lane are what you would expect them to be this time of year. Not good.

Sunsets have been good with a hint of smoke hovering 3 meters above the lake from wood burners .

Walking anywhere outside is becoming a chore. The snow on the lake is about 8 inches deep. Trudging through it is fine at first but becomes more exhausting with each foot fall. And then there's the cold. Did I mention the -19℉ at the start of skiing on Friday? That got old fast. Faster than trudging through the snow. If the forecasters are to be believed, this was the last full week of Deep Winter. With the warmer, brine thawing temperatures will be more snow, but that's fine.
