The Week Ending With Pumpkin Carving
October 9th through 14th
In an effort to better enjoy a treacherous fire, a bottle of wine was called for.  But what wine would pair well with a sploady fire?  We say Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill.  It  was available, reminds us of summer and its low price point will allow us to better afford medical treatment if a rocket gets too close.
The nights are getting cooler.  Larger fires were lit to combat the cold and to consume the sticks and unspent ordnance from the last few Bottle Rocket Wars.  The occasional report or rocket screaming from the fire made us a little tetchey for the first half hour or so.
Sunsets have been great.  And short.  Fall's Sun's faster race to night lights up the clouds for only about 2 minutes.
Frost!  Some of the morning temps slipped close to 20℉.  It took the sun a while to de-frock all the fallen leaves.
A good time was had by all 'cept for some of the pumpkins.
On Saturday, the bar was opened to carve pumpkins.  Nobody was seriously hurt but Meg got a Point in her eye.  Ha!
The vodka infused jigglers were perfect but the less said about the congealed cheese ball in liquid, (not pictured here) that was intended to be fondue, the better. And there was, of course, Swill Hamm's.  It was cold.
As a lake level rising bonus, it rained.  The rain started Saturday and it's still raining.  It looks to be about a half inch so far and it's not stopping, which is why this update page is being created now instead of golf balls being lost in the enormous piles of leaves on the NCC golf course.
The fewer number of carvers expressed itself in the fewer number of carved pumpkins.  Still, the designs were nice and no one debased themselves, and squash everywhere, by carving a pattern pumpkin.
The lake is down, but you knew that.  The next several days are supposed to be wet.  That'll help.  A wet rest-of-the-Fall could push Lucerne to 40 inches below the nail.  A wet winter could push it further up to the levels we saw at the end of July.  I hope so anyway.  In the meantime, the rain continues to fall, Potawatomi Trail is new and tee times are plenty.
