Labor Day Week

We made it to the northwoods early enough for a game of golf (Drove the green on 6, Huzzah!) at NCC on the way up and still made it to the lake in time to enjoy a few remaining hours of sunlight.

The Knott Lane open was held on Sunday. The field of 7 teams all golfed well. Joe H's team won with a 2 under par 33. We bogeyed the first and last holes.

No bogeys at the after party at the bar. Fifty seven people brought and enjoyed great food and I learned how to make a Manhatten.

The weather was great outside, festive inside.

There was bar rail bowling, and spontaneous singing. There was also dancing.

Apparently the dancing was judged close enough to rain dancing by the powers that judge such things. The lake area got 1.5 inches of rain in a short, powerful storm the next day (Labor day).

The lake got about 2.8 inches of rain, in total, through Monday, September 10th. I expected the creek to have at least standing water, but no. It remained dry. August was a really dry month.

The lake temperature peaked (for the week) at 76°F. It fell to 72°F by the time we left. We should have one more week of good (no hypothermia) swimming.

Under the slowly-recovering-from-the-dry-August waters we found large schools of small fish all over the north end of the lake.

Creating mini-solar eclipses while diving for golf balls became a late week favorite of north end skin divers. Well, me anyway.

August was dry. How dry? The lake lost almost 6 inches. Boo. By the end of last week, it had gained about 1.5 inches back. Going forward, the lower lake temperature should slow the evaporation rate. If we could just get a mess of rain to go with the lower temperatures we'd be in business. Here's hoping for a wet Fall.
