Ides of April Weekend

One of the first things we did upon arrival to the northwoods, was check the stream in the northeastern corner of the lake. It's no longer flowing, but the creek bed can still be described as moist.

A check of the rain gauge showed why the creek has stopped. The good news was that it was not empty. The bad news was that you had to tip it to a 45 degree angle to be sure. We need rain.

Celebrated in local story and song, the last of the "little orange cabins" were in the process of being moved off the north end of the lake. Kinda sad.

The webcam did not explode last week. I guess the dry weather is good for outdoor electronics. Well, that's something.

The NCC continues to have some of the best golf of the year, only it's getting more crowded. If the weather is good on a Saturday, call for a tee time or wait for an hour to go out the back. If you do go out the back, the fairways are really narrow. Unless you are really, really optimistic, bring more then one ball.

The rain that was to smack the lake on Saturday night largely didn't. We did get some on Sunday morning, but not much and certainly not enough.

Saturday's weather was supposed to be mostly cloudy and rainy. It turned out instead to be blue skyed and warm. Great for pier placing, picnicking and golf. Not so great for raising the lake level. Maybe the DNR is holding the rain for the weekdays, leaving the weekends dry. How nice of them. The homeopathic amount of rain last week did move the fire danger from EXTREME to VERY HIGH. That should go to LOW by mid-week if we get the more traditional April storms predicted next week instead of last week's very small amount of rain that somehow "remembers" larger storms. More piers are in but there are no skiers yet, at least I didn't see any.
