Skiing on Friday was done under cloudy skies and, after a few hours, during moderate snow.

The clouds and snow stayed around for the evening, which was unfortunate. A great Aurora Borealis was hidden behind the thick clouds and snow. The clouds pictured here, with just a 10 second exposure, swelled with a redish color. Clouds just to the left of these were a bright green. You could almost read by the glow.

The snow on the ground is getting thick.

The ice on the lake is getting thick. There is sixteen and a half inches of ice with about 6 inches of snow on top of that.

The Twist ice-cream stand that shares the building with the Double Buck Cafe in Laona has a new, more open air look thanks to a sleeping driver heading North on 32. The driver was reported to be unharmed, awakened. Another building was spared when the kinetic energy of the truck was converted to brake rotor heat and The Twist's broken walls.

The condition of Knott Lane is bad. Under the loose and packed snow, there's a layer of ice.

It was sadly noted that Meatski's, the small store on the corner of 64 and ZZ that we pass on the way up and back, burned last week. I don't think they'll be open any time soon.

The sunset on Saturday was a keeper.

Spring is not in the air. The long term forecast, compiled by the ouija board operators at Accuweather, is predicting a serious cold snap after next weekend. That'll push tree tapping back to Saint Patrick's Day weekend. I'll have to find my green hammer. There is also a lot of snow predicted. Don't expect the condition of Knott Lane to be springtime fresh anytime soon.<br><br><br>-Nemo drives while not texting and awake.
