Second Last Weekend in July

After arriving late Tuesday, we ran to the rain guage and checked how much the storms that knocked out the power deposited. The north end of the lake got 1.2 inches. Huzzah!

The creek bed in the northeast corner remains damp at best. More rain please.

On Wednesday, strong winds from the south tested the moorings of rafts. At least one anchor failed that test and us northenders gained one raft. The rightful owners made claim to the float about an hour later.

With the air hot and the lake in the 80's°F, many hopped in and around the water all weekend.

Ice based blue drinks were deployed on bar nights. A passing band stopped by and we had live music on one night. While the drummer was best described as ethereal, the lead singer and the guitarist played and sang in perfect syncronicity. The bands roadies were well behaved and brought their own beer.

The cry of "Bugs!" echoed in the air often enough to consider anyone in Forest county as an extra in a northwood's version of Heinlein's "Starship Troopers". They were everywhere. Many were the bitey kind. DEET seemed to only make them mad. No one escaped bar nights, concerts or [insert activity] without paying a blood tribute to those winged beasties.

An eagle or two continued to feast on fish. They hunted on the north end of Lucerne all weekend.

A doe and two fawns are tromping around the fairways and sandtraps of the Nicolet Country Club. The fairways are fine for tromping, but they sometimes forget to rake.

It's mid-summer, it's hot and the lake level is holding. It'd be nice to get some more storms to ensure that the level does not fall much. Given that the ground water seems high, a few more storms may even raise it. While we still have not baited a hook this year, the fish we've come across while diving seem very active. The tubers/skiers/footers were even more active all weekend. The noise of the large boat engines almost drowned out the ever present hum of mosquitoes on the shore. Almost.
