4th of July Weekend

June 28th through July 4th, 2011

Lake Lucerne
Arriving late Tuesday, we were struck by the weather. It was warm. Spring was cool and wet. The change from cool to warm was nice.
Lake Lucerne
The change from wet to dry was not so nice. Despite no rain so far this summer, the creek still has a trickle of water running through it. More rain please.

The Crandon Water Show is back! In addition to the "Boat of Many Engines", some of the favorite acts include...
Lake Lucerne
...all the barefoot runs...
Lake Lucerne
...getting up on two skies backward...
Lake Lucerne
...dropping a ski while backward...
Lake Lucerne
...swivel ski girl...
Lake Lucerne
...and trick ski guy.
Lake Lucerne
Skiers and raft jumpers alike enjoyed the warmest water of the year. The lake was at 75°F on the 4th.
Lake Lucerne
The skies were more eagley and less crowy all weekend.
Lake Lucerne
There were bar nights. The first bar night had less drinking and more learning of select topics in genomics. Later nights became more shotty, less genomicly.
Lake Lucerne
I'd like to think, as the last bar night passed on, that the shots became more blue as a tribute to the clear blue waters of Lake Lucerne. A non-flaming finger was included in this picture to give a sense of scale to the shot.
Lake Lucerne
Oh yeah, that juggling guy is pretty good too.
Lake Lucerne
Fireworks lit the sky much of the weekend. I've heard that Rhinelander's show was one of the best ever.
Lake Lucerne
Chipping golf balls onto the raft gives divers targets to collect after the chipping.
Lake Lucerne
More than one ball was retrived near a cluster of spawning bluegill, making them grumpy. Divers were attacked by the larger, more aggressive fish. Beware the grumpy bluegill!
Lake Lucerne
Summer is here in all of its blue sky, warmer water, long days, glory. Rah! The fish we saw while diving seemed very active, but I can't speak to how bitey they are. So far we have added ski to surface, fire to campwood and olive to martini, but we have yet to add hook to lake. Maybe next weekend. There were more boats pulling skiers and tubes on Lucerne over the weekend than I've seen in a long time. The Nicolet golf course is in great shape but is a little boyscouty late Thursday mornings. The scouts are very courteous but a little slow and tend to leave their injured where they drop. Note to scouts: Dump your injured and dead into the sand traps. That's what they're for. That being said, xxLt shot a 1 over par 36 on the front 9 by getting a 4 on each hole. I did not.

-Nemo had the right to get up early and go fishing, just not the ability.
