Second Last Spring Weekend

June 11th & 12th, 2011

Lake Lucerne
Friday night commitments pushed back our arrival to the lake until Saturday afternoon. Local wildlife took this as some sort of insult and greeted us by attacking the driver's side mirror of Mrs Nemo's car. Initial attacks were carried out by just one loud, red and "regular" bird.

Later that evening, nature escalated the assault by running a deer in front of the '93 Saturn on Hwy 8 just east of Fire-Up Smoke Shop (Where there's smoke there's Fire-Up. Fire-Up smoke shop.) The car impacted the beast squarely, adding a fatal amount of kinetic energy to the animal. The deer managed to head-butt the offending driver's side mirror to pieces as a last act of aggression. A truce between nature and Saturn was signed shortly afterward with both sides having had enough slaughter of mammals and mirrors.

After Saturday's events, Sunday's lawncare was deemed extra boring.

After the grass was cut, we did not ski. I will regret that decision for some time. Should've skied.
Lake Lucerne
Zero point six inches of rain last week. The lake seems to be holding its own.

The stream bed of the inflow in the northeast corner of the lake is dry.

We had a bubble level, some string to extend the nail height to the water, and 2 people to check the lake level. The only thing we forgot was a ruler. Marks made on the string and measured later at the bar put the lake level close to 36 inches below the nail. That's pretty close to the last time we checked. Next time we'll bring a ruler to give a more accurate number, that 36 inch figure could be +/-2 inches. The lake is 67°F on the north end, making the water cool (no longer cold) in my mind. Just because Mrs Nemo's car has dispatched more deer than most of the rifles in last year's deer camp, is that any reason to give it the title "Deer-Slayer"? Yes. Yes it is.

-Nemo just needs a loaf of boat, a jug of gasoline and Thou (tossing him a tow rope).
