Early Friday evening we were told to put on our syruping pants and rush to the sap shack, it was time to pull some pancake sauce.
By the time all 13 gallons were in bottles it was mostly too late for some quick lake golf. Mostly.
There were flaming shots on Friday's bar night and sciencey talk. It was asked if all vertebrates reproduced sexually. We should have called Ed or Maren for the answer. Mrs Nemo said,"Only the lucky ones." Shortly afterward the conversion turned to the important topic of cocktails and pool.
We also worked on our layering.
Saturday was full of lake golf, sap collecting and cooking fires. Mostly the latter two.
The sunset seemed to come way too fast. The warm sun had people thinking that spring was finally here, silly people.
A sap backup meant that the cooker fires had to be stoked all night. I like it when a really hot fire produces a cone of flame from the top of the stack.
Spring, Ha! It was snowing pretty well Sunday morning as old man winter played an increasingly tedious game of "got your nose" with young baby Spring. Winter! Quit teasing Spring and go.
There was more, but other events were either forgotten or too dreary to mention. One event that did not occur was a lake ice measurement. With the cold and snow it was estimated to be about 27 inches thick and not going out any time soon. Rain or snow is predicted on 7 of the next 10 days. There is still over a foot of snow in 'dem woods. The lake has just got to go up.
