June 8th through 10th, 2007

It was about 7:30 PM when we passed through Mountain on Hwy 32 and saw the path of one of the tornadoes that hit the state just days before. Law enforcement was all around as were the TV news people. It seemed wiser to get some pictures on our way back Sunday than add to the traffic congestion. The sun was set and Venus was getting brighter when we arrived at the lake. Saturday morning was clear and cool in the shadows, warm in the sun. A few clouds poped up during the day. They were so few and lite that they did not so much as block the sun's light, but refract it into a strange and wonderful color show. The new houses on the north end of the lake are plodding closer to done. The west one is getting stone applied to the sides and a deck bud has sprouted in the front. The eastern one is looking, for lack of a better word, huge. No windows yet but the roof is papered. Two car holes have sprouted in the back. There is wrap around deck sign (string lines and foundation elements) in the front. When asked about their new neighbors, cabins 1 & 2 pointed out the new finish on their fronts. On Sunday morning, the lake was extremely flat. It was hard to leave, as it always is, but we had golf to do and homes and jobs that required our presence. On Monday morning, the lake appeared to be just as calm on the webcam but we were in Milwaukee. Being awakened by a hysterical woman. On our front porch. At 4:45 AM. Screaming for help and pounding on our front door. There's more but it's not really lake related. If you want to know the rest stop by the bar when we're up and I'll fill you in. Until then, does blood come out of concrete? The roof of the firehouse just to the north of mountian was damaged on the southside. I wanted to park and get a few pictures to share but the local sheriff has posted no parking signs. I pulled out the camera and, while driving, snapped several pictures. Not an easy feat at 55 mph on a crowded road. Trees are down all over the place and bits of dwellings are in the fields and among the trees (hotwater heaters and the like). The path of the tornado is easy to see. It looks like a giant lawn mower with the blade height set to 20 feet was pushed over the hills.
