The Weekend Before Memorial Day Weekend

May 18th through 20th , 2007

On Friday afternoon the northwoods were green, the air cool, and storms 15 hours away. No rain was predicted on Friday night/Saturday morning. So I was surprised to be awakened early to the rumble of thunder. The lake really needed this and more. The birds are back. This eagle was crusing the north end of the lake on Saturday. Hummingbirds have returned to the feeders. The trillium still cover the forest floor but peak season for them is over. Many blooms are turning purple and losing their petals. Taco John's returns to Rhinelander! Taco John's returns to Rhinelander! Taco John's returns to Rhinelander! It's in front of the Walmart. Construction on the eastern house at Timber Shores continues. Looks like the third floor is halfway up. The western house is looking good/windowed. We were so inspired by the new buildings that we cut, sanded, and painted some siding for unsided elements of the bar. The final color was "Brushed Silver". The primer was white. The lake is 14.5 inches below the nail, an inch down from last weekend. sigh. We need more rain. Lots more. Much rain is predicted this week. I hope we actually get some. Summer seems to be stalled getting here. The nights are touching the high 30's°F and Sunday's high was only in the 50's°F. We did see what we assumed to be an escaped mental patient skiing the east shore during the weekend. The fish should soon migrate back to the lake from where ever they have gone to.

-Nemo
