Labor Day Weekend
September 2nd through 5th   
We arrived late on Friday night.  The weather was great and the sky was clear.
At about 8:04 PM the Space Station passed over the lake.  It was visible for quite a while as it moved from SW to NNE.
We stayed out until the sky grew very dark to see the stars.  The big dipper was very clear.
On Saturday I was told that we were to dive the entire last mile of the west shore, going from south to north, .
As soon as we reached the bottom several big smallmouth bass came to check us out.
This was one of the smaller ones.  We swam with 5 big ones for almost the whole dive.  I believe that smallmouth are the most curious and friendly freshwater fish in the lake.  Much better than those snooty walleye.
The cribs still are holding many fish including the biggest rock bass I've ever seen while diving.
We picked up much litter but this tire was too big to swim with for a mile so it was hung on a crib to get sometime later.
On Saturday night many enjoyed "Bar Night".  The doors were opened on Planet's old bar and the drinks were free.
There were some pretty fancy drinks like champagne with a strawberry floating in it.
The less said about the pickled eggs the better.  No one picked the black one so the Pope retains his job.
Sunday was the Mayor of Knottlane's birthday.  The celebration took the form of a golf tournament and a party afterward.  There was cake.
On the way back we came across this strange, flat, toad shapped rock in the road.  There was some brief speculation about it being igneous or possibly metamorphic.  It was later determined to be amphibian.
Jack & Kathy are the proud new owners of the oldest phone booth on the lake.  Very cool.
There were signs of the end of summer all around.  Peak color should be about 3 weeks away.
On the way home we stopped to explore the old dam in Wabeno.  It took a bit of effort to find in the thick brush but it was well worth the rash(es).

Many boats were pulled from the lake this weekend but a few hardy types opted to pluck them out later.  We did that one year and found the water gets much colder later.  With the boats and lifts pulled from the 68 F water, we left.  Be back next week.
