We arrived for a 1 week stay on Saturday. The weather was great and the lake cool.
Lake Lucerne is one of the cleanest bodies of water in the state. The cold water seems more clear this time of year. These rocks are in about 8 feet of 62 degree F water. We didn't do any SCUBA this week and I'm not sure why. I vow to spend much time under the lake next visit.
Many loons were spotted fishing on the north end of the lake.
The fishing was great all week. Because we are in the "Northern Bass Zone" all bass had to be returned to the water but we kept (and ate) many panfish and a walleye.
Meg caught a 19.5 inch walleye in about 15 feet of water on the north end of the lake. She was using a 2 inch twister tail on 4 lb test line. It took a while to land but was very tasty.
The rain is pushing the lake to record levels. Docks, lifts and piers are becoming covered by the rising lake. The level has historically peaked in June so it may back off a bit in the coming months but for now rough water is causing feet to get wet while standing on some docks.
Clouds seemed to grow thicker in the evening, obscuring the stars and comets (LINEAR and NEAT) but the sunsets were splendid.
Heavy rain followed by sun produced a few great rainbows. This double had a very bright northern arc.
It's southern arc was pretty good too.
On Saturday, before leaving, we drifted around and grilled chedderwurst on a pontoon boat.
There was also potato salad.
We will be back on the 4th of July weekend. The water should be warmer, it's currently quite cold.
