Winter Weekend III
February 27th & 28th
Friday night, when we arrived, the waxing moon was visible through light clouds and the temperature was not so bad.
Saturday morning was partly cloudy and the snow was melting fast.
Metal roofs with a steeper pitch "avalanched" in the warm sun.
The forts on the lake are shrinking.
The hole from last week has not froze over very deeply.  Ice-out may be sooner than you think.
When we started to drill the hole to measure the ice depth we were feeling fresh, rested and excited to see how deep the ice was.
It took longer than expected to get to the bottom of the ice.  We began to feel tried and fatigued.
There is about 25.25 inches of good ice.
Ice-out wiil not happen next week.
Construction crews took advantage of the weather all day Saturday.
It looks like the roof will be finished by Saturday night.
We will be back in a week or two.
