Start of Summer Weekend

June 19th through 23rd, 2003

Lake Lucerne
We arrived late Thursday. Friday morning was clear and a little cool. The weather was magnificent all weekend.
Lake Lucerne
The flies that follow and eat the tent caterpillar are back. Their numbers are not as large as last year and that does make them a little less vexing. They should be moving on in a few weeks as they follow their prey north.
Lake Lucerne
The water temperature was great. It went as high as 75°F during the weekend (on the surface, the bottom of the lake is quite colder, see Dive #1 Report) prompting much swimming and, when the water was calm, skiing.

The raft has been tipped.

I'd like to thank Treadwell's for putting in the blue raft marking the start of the swimming across the lake season.

When the sun went down the cold crept out. Campfires keep us warm.

Friendly chipmunk!
Lake Lucerne
Monday started calm with a threat of rain. The storm broke up before it hit and the wind picked up from the south creating whitecaps on the north end of the lake. We'll be back in 10 days.
