Winter Weekend

February 14th & 15th

The weekend started at "The Waters Edge" where we enjoyed a few adult beverages, some pool and an ice flinging bartender. We stayed later than we should have. I blame the non-functioning "Bud Lite" clock that reported 7:47 all night. As the night passed, the clouds thinned and the almost full moon came out. The temperature then dropped. Saturday morning was unspeakably cold with a stiff wind from the northeast. If you are voting this Tuesday I would urge you to vote against any candidate that espouses a longer or colder winter. The weather station was serviced and the cold was cursed during the entire process. The snow forts that were used during last months bottle rocket war were showing signs of age. A large drift formed in front of our fort. Jim's fort was reduced to a few lumps in the snow. Poor construction and harsh weather were cited as the cause but I blame the French. Jeff's fort has survived almost completely intact showing very little sign of age. Now if we could just say the same of Jeff... There is nothing left of Dean's fort. We shouldn't let this tragedy deplete our resolve or serve as an indictment of western civilization but instead learn from the disaster. The primary lesson of course is this: Dean builds crappy forts. Meg started the hole to measure the ice depth. She called for a proxy driller at the 19 inch mark. The hole went deeper and deeper as the driller got more and more hunched over. The cold didn't help. There are 24 very solid inches of ice. <br><br><br>-Nemo
