All participants in the event finished. This included those deemed "To Fit" and handicapped by carrying a watermelon during the race.
The only known photo of the actual race is this shot of the swimming leg. The tempestuous seas complicated the strategies of the contestants. Some chose to start off strong, others held back to conserve energy and still others just tried not to drown.
