September 18th through 20th, 1997

The primary reason for coming up to the lake was to pull in the paddle boat and its lift, but secondary reasons include a check on leaf color, eat at Duck's, and rumor of a new puppy on the North end of the lake. Rock balancing started off as more of a tertiary reason, but some had such fun it was bumped up to primary. Duck's had their mushroom soup made for Friday night. We had a few bowls before the "popcorn shrimp" main course. And a few afterward. The Crabapples are in full crab. Pretty, but not too tasty (at least to us). The lake water is at a barely swimable 62°F. I dove for many golf balls for almost 20 minutes, then shivered out. The fire tower at Sugarbush Hill was ascended to check on the progress of the Fall colors. Some color, but not much. Peak is a week or two away. The puppy rumors were true! His name is Jake and he's really soft and a little nippy. The thunderstorms that greeted us when we arrived became clouds and then a mostly blue. The temperatures got better, too. Our sprits were further bolstered by the lack of injuries during the pulling of the paddle boat, its lift, and the rock balancing. Duck's mushroom soup and Jake wer just the cherries on top of most excellent weekend. We'll be back in 2 weeks for peak color.

-Nemo will swim in a 62°F lake, but prefers 75°F water.
