Fishing Weekend

June 4th through 8th, 1997

Fishing weekend! Up until now, the fish have been inactive. They started biting this weekend and filled Lake Lucerne with finny funness. You could catch them from the shore, but using a floaty boat is better. The water temperature is 60 F so a sinky boat is not recommended. The Wisconsin Piranha (Rock Bass) are particularly active. We pulled more then one from the crystal clear waters. After a busy day on the water and cleaning scores of fish, it's time to relax and eat. It's pizza time. We've been visiting The Haven (aka Pizza Rat) in Rhinelander for over 15 years now. And what would a trip to Rhinelander be without a visit to The Yellow Rose Saloon ( incomplete and sad, that's what). They cool their "Beer Goblets" in a chiller so cold that the contents of the Goblet gets more slushy than watery. We had some rain this extended weekend (Thursday and Saturday). We had some sun also (Friday and Sunday). When it rained the temperature was in the low 60's°F. It was close to 75°F when the sun was out. The lake level is going up to the a-few-more-inches-and-the-piers-will-be-covered level. We put together a lift for the paddle boat and Mrs Nemo celebrated by catching a big bass. I must have been less excited by the new lift in that the bass I caught were smaller. The only swim this weeked involved retrieving a stuck anchor and a lot of complaining.

-Nemo; fish fear him, but they fear his wife more.
