Comet Hale-Bopp Weekend
March 7th through 9th, 1997

The weekend was booked solid. On the schedule was laundry, cards, fishing, and a comet. On Saturday, after laundry, there was talk of using one of the old bottle rocket war forts as a fishing shanty. The location was rejected after remembering that the fort's location was not a very good fishing spot.

The new-ish auger worked well. There was also wine.

After a few hours we had 2 suckers, a perch, and an empty wine bottle. I'm not sure where the fish were, but I can tell you where they were not.

Comet Hale-Bopp was much better than 2 suckers, a perch, and an empty wine bottle. You could see it with the naked eye and film captured the blue ion tail. Best Comet Ever.

There's plenty of ice on the lake and plenty of comet in the night sky. There's also plenty of cold but there's less snow than usual. Let's hope that does not affect the lake level this Summer. We'll be back in a week to see the comet again and check the ice thickness.
