First Taste of Summer

June 26th through 30th, 1996

We made it up on Wednesday just after sunset. The weather was forecast to be great for the rest of the week and there was food to be eaten, tans to be darkened, and a lake that was in desperate need of swimmers and skiers. They did not lie about the weather. It was hot the entire time. On Friday Duck's had mushroom soup and a lesser soup on the salad bar. The food that came with the soup was pretty good, too. There was a trip to the big city sandwiched between ski runs and diving events. No trip to Rhinelander would be complete without a visit to Taco John's. There were also after dinner drinks to be had at the Yellow Rose. They have a mug chiller. It makes their beer extra frosty good. The lake level continues to be at a near record high. Block had to be added to some piers to keep them from floating away. The hot weather and flat water made skiing and knee boarding kind of mandatory. The sparkly light helped, too. We did not ski until we bled. One or two more runs would have done it. A knee board newbie did his first face plant and did not like the whole flipped up eyelid thing. No one fished. There was no time what with all the diving, pier golf ball whacking, swimming, skiing, and other feats of Summer. While Rhinelander continues to have good beer and Taco John's, what's up with the parking meters? Boo! We parked in the back lot and walked. We'll be back in a week or two after we heal up and catch our breath.

-Nemo prefers free parking while drinking beer and making waves.
