End of Summer
August 14th through 23rd, 1987

We're back! It's been over a year since we last visited the lake. Last year we stayed at Timber Shores, one of the many wonderful resorts that dot beautiful Lake Lucerne. This is the first year we are staying at the new place on Knott Lane.

Skiing has been plagued by motor issues all week. There were eventually some runs, just not as many as there should have been.

All the built up frustration over un-starting motors was dissolved into the lake during a swim across the north end. There's nothing like drowning to take the focus off your motor troubles.

The new place needed a new foundation. The new owner spent much of the week underground, building posts from cinder block. We watched and hauled the occasional cinder block, but mostly watched.

This week marked the start of another age for us on the lake. All the past years' visits have been spent as resort guests. There was no ad-hoc electricial work, putting the water in/out, foundation work, mowing, or snow shoveling. There was only the lake. Now, the addition of cabin based responsibilities have given us a new view of the lake. And the local hardware store. The new chore lists have not so much taken away time spent on the water, but rather have given us a new appreciation for leisure lake activites. Hauling cinder block and mowing can be heavy, sweaty work, but when such tasks are done, they seem to make the lake water a bit sweeter.
