Anyway, I was driving back to the bar (that’s “home” to those of you who don’t know that our cabin/house used to be a bar…) after golf and all of a sudden Andy starts speaking in tongues and I look up (I had been looking down at the speedometer) and holy s%@!, there was a deer bounding right in front of my car. I slammed on the brakes but couldn’t slow down fast enough to avoid hitting Bambi. I struck it on the left hind quarters with the left, center of the Saturn. She spun around the car to the left and tore off my driver’s side, rear view mirror. She also knocked off the Saturn logo from the front hood. The car’s in okay shape but my ego’s been bruised a little. It’s funny, just the other day I was thinking that I had been extremely lucky in never hitting a deer. In all the miles I’ve logged driving up to Lake Lucerne this is the first deer I’ve ever hit. I used to wonder how so many people hit so many deer and now I know. They come out of the woods so close to your car you just never see them until it’s too late.

I’m thinking that perhaps this was God’s way of telling me to slow down and pay more attention to what I’m doing. I tend to be easily distracted (oh, look, a chicken…) and really need to focus more closely on everything.
